Gingham Apron Giveaway!

via Michelle on Pinterest

I love and collect aprons: some are new, some are vintage (from flea markets, antique stores) and most my mom makes for me for holidays and birthdays - and they’re my favorites (of course). I'm wearing one of her aprons in this picture. Isn't it pretty? I really DO wear them at home when I bake or cook, not just for pictures for work. They keep my clothes clean (practical) and they are, well, FUN!
In this picture (right), I'm wearing an apron from Anthropologie one my very favorite stores ever for aprons and housewares. And, they carry some of the prettiest sundresses I've ever seen.

3 more aprons from my mom. She’s a keeper. I know!
Recently I started using Pinterest and found these oh-so-pretty aprons from Stitch thru Time (below, left). These folks aren’t on Facebook or Twitter yet, but I hope you will give their site a look.

I'm a big fan of gingham and have used it in one form or another for Sweet & Simple since day one. My original "test" packages had ric-rac and gingham bows. And so I thought one of these red gingham aprons would be a perfect pop of color for an upcoming photo session for Sweet & Simple. And then I thought why not share a little apron love?

I really like this company's aprons for the obvious vintage look/feel, the number of styles and the size options. Most aprons are one-size-fits-all. Although aprons aren't really fitted, it's nice to wear one gently sized. And the matching mother-daughter aprons are too much - some of the best I've seen.

The giveaway is simple:

Please leave a comment in the comments section of this post telling me if you wear an apron when you bake/cook, if you collect them, give them as gifts and/or what you love about aprons and what color (yellow, blue or red) gingham apron you would choose for yourself.

Next Sunday, February 12th I will select a random winner using random.org and notify the winner in the comments section.

Once I have confirmed your mailing address by e-mail (for your own privacy, please do NOT post it online on my blog), Sweet & Simple will order and send you one (1) 1940 Retro Gingham Apron in yellow, red or blue from Stitch Thru Time.

Some other online aprons I like very much at the moment:

Aimee Broussard - she's just launched her own apron line and are they adorable, or what?! So happy for her. Love the hearts and gingham - just so sweet.

And here's a fab vintage inspired apron from Etsy store Pig & Company - ruffles, a heart pocket, bows and an awesome print. What more can you ask for?

Want to make an apron? Here are some free patterns from Tip Junkie!

Thinking of collecting vintage aprons? I only buy what I will wear or give as a gift. I tend to stick to the $6 - $10 range for vintage, though you can pay much more depending on the quality, condition, etc. For me, the apron must be in wearable condition (no stains or damage) and FIT me. If it is too tiny, I set it aside for someone else to enjoy. Wash your vintage aprons by hand or on the gentle cycle of your washing machine with a mild detergent and line dry and cool iron as necessary.

Vintage aprons are wonderful to give as gifts/party favors at a cookie exchange, gingerbread decorating party, bridal shower or other event where they might be appreciated, thought I do tend to give vintage inspired NEW aprons because one gal's "vintage" is another gal's "used."

Thanks for looking and I sure hope you enter the giveaway by commenting below.

  1. I love aprons too. Last year My husband bought me a sewing machine and my first project was an apron. I wear half aprons when doing dishes and a full one when I bake. The red gingham one is pretty, but they're all nice.

  2. OMW - I have a ton of aprons, and can always use more!!! I would chose the red one.

  3. I enjoy the vintage aprons the most. They take me back to baking with my grandmother as a young girl. She always let me stir. L I am particular partial to the red apron myself but would welcome any of them.

  4. I love an apron & wear them when I am cooking with particularly messy ingredients. I only have one though, and need another because sometimes it's in the wash! I particularly love the look of that yellow gingham apron. Reminds me of Scarlett O'Hara for some reason!

  10. I love aprons & actually wear them! I wear long aprons when I'm baking & short aprons when I'm cooking. Love to collect them & I often receive them as gifts! It's nice to think of those you love when wearing the apron they gave you!

  12. I wear an apron when baking and love them in the garden as well. I prefer the red myself but they are all gorgeous.

  13. I love wearing aprons whenever I'm in the kitchen (or doing crafts). I only have my two Pampered Chef ones for being a Pampered Chef consultant so I don't have any "fun" ones. LOL I love the red one :)

  14. I'm definitely an apron girl -- otherwise I'd have to change clothes every time I cook or bake! I love them all....if I had to choose, I'd probably go for red. (I actually like the yellow one a lot, but I think the red would be better camouflage for all the stuff that ends up on my aprons! :-)

  15. I am very much NOT an apron girl. I used to wear one in the restaurants because it was part of the deal, but at home, I generally don't. Unless I'm working with chocolate. And then, yes, because my whites are a Chocolate Magnet. Or maybe it's just me! ;) I do understand the *appeal* of an apron, but I just don't wear them myself. If I were to win one, I would probably give it to someone. Either a regifting-to-a-reader or maybe to an Apron-wearing buddy.

Very Fun Giveaway, by the way, Michelle! Someone will be Very happy that they won this one!

  16. I always wear an apron when I bake, cook, or just about anything else in the kitchen. Sadly, I only have one. It's black and boring and if I ever learn to use my sewing machine, making a new apron is one of the first things I'll do. Would love to have the red one!

  17. I love aprons!!! I have several of my grandmother's, which I treasure!

  18. Cute aprons! Alas, I am apron-deprived...i.e. I have no aprons. Shocking isn't it? But the red one would match my kitchen. Hint...hint! *smile*

  19. I like wearing aprons. For Christmas I received one made of black satin with pearls around the neck line... I lovely little black dress for when we have dinner parties! LOL It's great!

  20. Beautiful aprons. I want them all LOL. I collect them and give them as gifts. I have to admit it's hard to give an apron as a gift because I want to keep it for myself instead. My favorite aprons are the vintage ones by far. Reds and yellows are my favorite.

  21. I give aprons as gifts as well as frequently wear them. I have an apron for every duty although they are getting old and worn out...cooking, baking, and cleaning (something about wearing a cute apron while cleaning toilets makes it a little better lol) I love the yellow gingham, so sunny and makes me think of spring!!! Beautiful work!

  25. Love aprons and always wear one when I'm baking! Is it odd that I feel a little 'dressed up' when I wear one? ;) My favourite is a little halfsie apron I bought at a vintage shop last fall for $10. Scalloped edges, pink and white, covered in little cherries :) I do collect and have about 6 so far. I have given a few as gifts to others, but only if I know they'll wear them! Not sure if this is open to us in Canada-land, but just in case, of the aprons pictured, I love the blue one. I don't have any blue aprons yet! Wonderful idea for a giveaway, Michelle! xo

  30. I love aprons but only have 1 - it's full of fabulous (and not so fabulous) baking memories!

  31. I have memories of my Mom wearing an apron almost identical to those shown. Not having her around my entire adult life I always feel as though I am channeling her when I bake with my aprons on. I am a self taught cake decorator and always wear an apron when baking and decorating, I have unwittingly collected aprons over the years and if I were to chose one of the three colors for myself, there is something about the blue one that really talks to me even though everything in my kitchen is red! =) What a wonderful giveaway!

  32. I love aprons!!! I always wear one while baking. If I had to choose, and I do,...it would be the red apron. It would match my kitchen. I would tressure it!

  33. My grandma ALWAYS wore aprons, and insisted I did too. My mom-probably because that's the way things work sometimes-hates aprons and thinks they are old-fashioned. She laughs at my aprons (I only have 2, bought the year I was married 16 years ago), but always complains that her "shelf" always get spots on it and ruins her blouses, so who's the silly one here?
My husband too teases me about my aprons, but when my kids see me tying one on they get excited. Yay! Mom is baking!!! My daughter wants one SO badly. I keep saying I will learn to sew and sew her one, but it hasn't happened-YET.
These aprons are gorgeous, and I have already re-pinned some to my board lol.
Great giveaway-and I hope I win! (of course!)

  34. I love these!! I remember a special woman in my life that used to wear aprons every day! She would use them to cook, clean, dry her hands, wipe our tears, and even to collect the eggs from chicken coop! (Now that I think about that I am not so sure I should have let her wipe my tears..)But I loved her aprons and loved her so very much that now I am a proud wearer of aprons (although I use special apron for egg gathering lol)
My 5 yr old has started wearing them too, his favorite one is Camo colored, ofcourse. The yellow apron would match Mabel, my kitchenaid mixer, perfectly!
Thankyou for the great picture of the adorable aprons and the chance to win one!
